The average person will go through 9 surgeries in their life: After each surgery, they will need to follow very specific instructions for anywhere from a few days, to several months. And today patients are largely left alone to deal with that burden on their own.

That’s why we built an agent that takes the large complex documents that define these instructions, and turns them into organic, daily, conversational check-ins with a patient. It’s able to understand exactly which parts of the instructions matter most at a given time, and loops in all the parties to a patient’s care.

These check-ins allow for a safer recovery, with better outcomes in a way that scales while staying personalized.

We also took an approach that allows providers to have direct insight and control over how the AI guides the user to ensure that the risk from hallucinations and biases are reduced. We do this by having our agent not act immediately, but instead having it plan in advance: taking the treatment plan and breaking it down into a set of day-by-day actions that can easily be inspected and validated by the provider, keeping a human-in-the-loop.

This increased pace of check-ins also has the potential to unlock new insights into how humans heal: for example we can correlate events during check-ins to specific outcomes for operations, revealing important patterns and insights.

Overall we’re not just excited about what we built this weekend, we’re excited about how it could take post-operative healthcare to a new age while improving how people feel through a really difficult time.
